They sometimes feature religious iconography; motifs and symbols, such as the Tibetan mantra Om mani padme hum, images of Buddhas, or the Ashtamangala Eight Auspicious Signs. The bowls are made of Panchaloha: literally translated from Sanskrit as Five Metals. The metal alloys contain copper, tin, zinc, iron and other metals. Singing bowls are played by the friction of rubbing a wooden mallet around the rim of the bowl to produce overtones and a continuous 'singing' sound.
